The Kala Ghodha Festival is a prominent hub for literary and performing arts in India. By hosting events and sessions that celebrate various art forms and creative expressions, the festival aims to nurture and support local artistic talent while enriching the cultural landscape of the region.
Day 1- “Sadda Haq Aithe Rakh”
The festival provided an ideal setting to create awareness about the importance of safeguarding the rights of songwriters, composers, and lyricists. With its mission to inform, educate, and empower music creators, IPRS organised a session “Sadda Haq Aithe Rakh” on the 7th of February. The standout event was led by none other than the esteemed lyricist, screenwriter, and IPRS Board Member, Mayur Puri. With his vast experience and expertise in the world of storytelling and songwriting, he captivated the audience and took them on an inspiring journey through the intricacies of the art of songwriting. The workshop offered valuable guidance on crafting compelling lyrics that resonate with listeners, sharing insights behind creating evocative imagery, emotions, and storytelling within the framework of a song. Mayur Puri emphasized the importance of safeguarding one’s work through an understanding of the creators’ rights. Being aware of the rights associated with the music created and knowing how to protect them allows a creator to pursue their passion without being unlawfully exploited or falling prey to the unauthorized use of their work. By emphasizing the nuances of copyright management, Mayur Puri aimed to empower songwriters to navigate the industry confidently.
Through collaboration with the Kala Ghoda Festival, IPRS effectively reached out to the vast community of music creators and aspirants. The festival’s wide-ranging audience, comprising not only musicians but also artists from diverse disciplines and art enthusiasts, provided a unique opportunity to amplify the message of creative rights to a broader community.
Day 2- Women Changing Music Roundtable
The music industry has long been gender-skewed, but recent years have witnessed a significant shift. More and more talented female creators are stepping into the limelight, making their mark, and redefining the narrative of the music industry.
Despite music being an integral part of our country’s culture and daily life, contributions from female creators to the vast repertoire have been very limited.
To address the under-representation of women in music and celebrate the achievements of female music creators, IPRS took the stage at the Kala Ghoda Festival of Arts to organize the music roundtable – “Women Changing Music”. The event highlighted the inspiring journeys of women who have broken the glass ceiling to redefine the trend, paving the way for others to follow. By showcasing these pioneering women, we sought to motivate aspiring creators and encourage them to pursue their passions fearlessly.
The “Women Changing Music” roundtable featured an engaging conversation with some of the most influential and game-changing women in the Indian music industry. Our esteemed panelists included Srushti Tawde, Priyanka Khimani, Mercy Tetseo from The Tetseo Sisters, Gauri Yadwadkar, and Nirmika Singh. Each of these incredible women has played a significant role in shaping the music landscape and creating a positive impact in the industry. Their stories served as a beacon of hope and inspiration, inspiring others to dream big and embrace their creativity.
By bringing together trailblazers from the industry, the event fostered a sense of solidarity and community among women in music. This was just the beginning of our journey towards building a more inclusive music industry in India.
Together, let’s create music and inspire change!
