Taking Music Copyright Awareness to the Grassroots Across India
My Music. My Right. is IPRS’ nationwide awareness initiative aimed at educating lyricists, composers, and music publishers about their rights, royalties, and the importance of protecting their creative work. The initiative is built on a simple yet powerful idea, when you create music, you own rights, and those rights must be understood, protected, and properly monetised.
With Season 3, IPRS is taking this movement deeper into India’s music ecosystem by reaching artists at the grassroots level across the country. The focus this season is on direct, on-ground engagement, meeting creators in their own cities, within their own creative environments, and building awareness about music copyright, song registration, and royalty systems. Instead of expecting artists to navigate complex processes on their own, IPRS is bringing knowledge, access, and support closer to where music is actually being made.
As part of this effort, IPRS has partnered with studios across 14 cities and identified them as IP Hubs. These studios will serve as local IPRS touchpoints, allowing creators to connect more easily with the organisation. Artists can visit these studios to apply for IPRS membership, register their songs, seek guidance on copyright-related matters, and participate in future workshops and awareness sessions hosted at these locations. By integrating copyright education into active music spaces, IPRS is strengthening the bridge between creation and protection.
The IP Hub studios are:
- Mumbai – The Circuit Studio
- Guwahati – SM Records Studio
- Patna – HarDan Group Studio
- Kolkata – Inreco Label
- Gurgaon – Ghanu Studios
- Mohali – Tweaktone Studio
- Chennai – Behind Talkies Studio
- Bangalore – SV Digital Studio
- Goa – Future School of Music
- Vizag – Sri Matha Studio
- Delhi – SirGamma
- Ahmedabad – The Key Studio
- Madurai – Rakky Audio
Grassroots awareness plays a crucial role in building a stronger and more sustainable music ecosystem. Many creators miss out on rightful royalties simply due to lack of information about ownership, registration processes, and how royalties are collected and distributed. By addressing these gaps directly and regionally, IPRS is enabling creators to secure their intellectual property, build long-term value from their catalogues, and establish more sustainable professional careers.
This initiative aligns closely with IPRS’ larger vision of empowering music creators and contributing to the development of India’s creator economy. An informed creator is an empowered creator, and empowered creators are essential to building a thriving, transparent, and sustainable music industry. Through My Music, My Right: Season 3, IPRS continues its commitment to accessibility, education, and long-term engagement with creators across India.
