Sagarika Music: A true-blue legacy of Marathi music

With over 10000 music tracks in its repertoire, a well spread out multi-genre catalogue burnished by an experimental approach, Sagarika music is a top label in the Marathi music industry. Q.  You have an image of a true-blue musical legacy, especially in Marathi music.  How have you gone about building it? 

A. Well, if you call it a musical legacy, then I guess it started when my father, Mr. Hirak Das, entered the music industry in 1970. He ran the record plant of the vinyl dressing plant of the label Polydor, which is Universal Music today. And I guess that’s where the Das family journey in the music industry began.

One of the most culturally endowed regions of Southeast Asia, Bengal has been carrying with it an affluent musical legacy over millennia. It drives its strength from the amazing colors and the scope of its wide arching sweep. Music artists from Bengal, it is interesting to note, have taken every opportunity to weave their creations around the prevalent social fabric of the time.

Fronted by soul-searching mystics, the word Baul may have its roots in the Sanskrit word “Vyakula” or “restless.”

IPRS Foundation Day Celebrated Through KOLAB 2025 Indo-Canadian Music Collaboration

The Indian Performing Right Society Ltd. (IPRS), in partnership with SOCAN (The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) and SOCAN Foundation, proudly announces the third edition of KOLAB, its flagship cross-border songwriting initiative. Building on the success of the Indo-Korean edition, this year’s program brings together 15 Indian and 8 Canadian music creators for a week-long songwriting residency from August 23rd to 29th, 2025 at The True School of Music, Vijay Bhoomi University Campus, Karjat.
