Bow, Strings, and Brilliance: The Enchanting World of Dr. Rangappriya Sankaranarayanan
Dr. Rangappriya Sankaranarayanan is a passionate violinist trained in Indian classical music since the age of ten under Kalaimamani Embar S. Kannan. She is a versatile performer, excelling as a soloist, accompanist, and session artist across multiple genres, including film, indie music, and devotional tracks.
She has also completed her Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery (BDS) from SRM Dental College, Ramapuram, and an Advanced PG Diploma from the Manipal Institute of Regenerative Medicine, Bengaluru.
Rangappriya is the founder and leader of Pravaham, an all-women Neo-Carnatic fusion band. She has performed over 900 concerts across India and internationally in UAE, Indonesia, the UK, Malaysia, Singapore, and the USA. She was a Golden Buzzer contestant and semi-finalist in India’s Got Talent (Season 8, 2018) and runner-up in Super Singer Champions of Champions on Vijay TV. She received the prestigious Yuva Kal Bharathi award from Bharath Kalachar in 2023 and is a regular performer on television channels such as Vijay TV, Zee TV, Jaya TV, and Sun TV as a soloist and accompanying artist. She has also performed at Superstar Rajinikanth’s and Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s residences for Navaratri concerts.
As a recording artist, Rangappriya has played solo violin for A.R. Rahman in the song Baby Chiki Chiki (Kadhalika Neramillai) and has worked with music directors such as Girish Gopalakrishnan, D. Imman, Siddhu Kumar, and Bharath Sankar for various Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films. She has performed live with renowned artists including Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, K.S. Chithra, Mano, Karthik, Naresh Iyer, and Saindhavi. She has also been a soloist for Deva, Vijay Antony, and other music directors’ live concerts. In addition to her film and concert work, she is an active performer with QFR – Quarantine From Reality, a trending YouTube music series.
With an ever-evolving musical journey, Rangappriya continues to push boundaries in Indian classical and contemporary music. She also is a sessions musician with mastery over instruments like the viola, cello, and dilruba giving her music an expanse that is truly awe-inspiring.
