The Indian Performing Right Society Ltd. (IPRS), in partnership with SOCAN (The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) and SOCAN Foundation, proudly announces the third edition of KOLAB, its flagship cross-border songwriting initiative. Building on the success of the Indo-Korean edition, this year’s program brings together 15 Indian and 8 Canadian music creators for a week-long songwriting residency from August 23rd to 29th, 2025 at The True School of Music, Vijay Bhoomi University Campus, Karjat.

MIB to launch centralised digital music licensing registry by October

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will launch a Centralised Digital Music Licensing Registry by October 2025, aiming to streamline clearances and boost the live events industry. This initiative, finalized during a Joint Working Group meeting, seeks to position India among the top five global live entertainment destinations by 2030.

Indian music industry calls for AI transparency to protect copyright owners

The Indian Music Industry (IMI) has urged the government to introduce rules ensuring transparency in generative artificial intelligence (AI) models, particularly to safeguard creators and copyright holders.

Speaking at the All About Music conference, IMI Chairman Vikram Mehra urged the government to mandate disclosures whenever generative AI models ingest copyrighted materials during their machine learning processes. He emphasised that copyright holders and creators must be shielded from potential misuse as AI becomes increasingly prevalent in content creation.
