On December 5th, 2023, the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) proudly hosted the International Music Creators Seminar in Mumbai on behalf of CISAC and the Asia Pacific Music Creators Alliance (APMA). This extraordinary event drew over 100 music creators from India and around the globe, uniting industry executives, officials, academics, and passionate music enthusiasts under one roof. Together, they forged connections, shared insights, and laid the groundwork for the future of the music industry.
APMA Donation Awarded to BLCPS (Bangladesh) and ACPO (Sri Lanka)
Marks the beginning of a dynamic cross-cultural Music Exchange between India and Korea, Creating New Avenues for Collaboration, Knowledge, and Rights Protection
The Asia-Pacific Music Creators Alliance (APMA) donation project was first initiated by APMA Chairman Mr. Myung Sun Yoon, with the aim of developing and revitalizing the copyright market in the Asia-Pacific region. Since 2022, APMA has been collecting donations from various entities from the Korean music industry in order to improve the working environment of underdeveloped organizations and to raise copyright awareness in developing countries. Since October last year, APMA has been collecting donations from various organizations in the Korean music industry to help raise copyright awareness and improve the working environment of CMOs.
At the seminar APMA donated USD 5,000 to 2 societies in Asia respectively – BLCPS of Bangladesh and ACPO of Sri Lanka. The societies have been recommended by CISAC, and were selected as the beneficiaries of the donation after a meeting of APMA Executive Committee.
IPRS inks MOU with KOMCA
In a momentous development at the International Music Creators Seminar 2023, the Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) and the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) joined forces by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaborative effort is set to organize a series of events dedicated to fostering awareness, knowledge, and collaboration in crucial areas such as copyright, music creation, and collective management.
Launch of The Music Creator Economy – The Rise of Music Publishing in India study by EY
The conference served as the launch pad for the first-of-its-kind survey conducted in India by EY, capturing the state of music publishing in India, perspectives around its applicability and market potential.
EY survey reveals that only 56% of music creators in India have access to the equipment and infrastructure needed to produce music.
On-call professional fees and live performances were key revenue sources for most creators. Publishing revenues have grown 2.5x in three years to INR884 crore. Read More

1. “How AI Will Revolutionize the Music Industry”:
A glimpse into the future unfolded as creators explored the intersection of music and artificial intelligence. The panel showcased how AI is becoming a powerful tool for music creation. Renowned artists and industry experts who attended the panel highlighted the positive potential AI tools have for creators, and the exciting AI revolution that is already happening cannot be stopped. Generative AI can extend the frontiers of human creation, enhance artistic expression, and deliver to creators new licensing opportunities and revenue streams. But AI also requires smart regulation. The industry needs to come together to prevent AI from undermining human creativity and threatening the livelihoods of creators.

2. “Fair Value of Music in the Streaming Economy”:
Delving into the streaming era, this panel dissected the challenges and opportunities it presents. Music creators, industry experts, and officials engaged in a meaningful conversation about adapting to industry changes for revenue maximization. Discussions led by leading creators, legal experts, and industry veterans Dhinraj Shetty – MD Sony Music Publishing (India), Swanand Kirkire – Lyricist, Singer & Actor, Irfan Aulia – Musician, Managing Director, Massive Music, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Collective Management Organization Wahana Musik Indonesia, Notapol Srichomkwan – Songwriter and Chairman MCT, Tarsame Mittal – Music Enterpreneur, moderated by Satoshi Watanabe of CISAC, highlighted the necessity for adaptations and mindset shift towards paid consumption of music to ensure a fair music ecosystem.
3. “Future of Representation and Contribution of Women in Music”:
This panel explored global challenges in achieving gender parity and equal opportunities for women within the music industry. A candid discussion unfolded, shedding light on the barriers faced by women in music and charting a course towards a more inclusive future.
The third panel, The Future of Female Representation & Contribution in the Music Industry, featured discussions by Lyricist and Screenwriter Kausar Munir, Music Composer Sneha Khanwalkar, Composer and Music Producer Merlyn D’Souza, Music Composer and Producer Hiral Viradia, and Nanni Singh – Chief Executive ShowcaseEvents, moderated by lyricist and screenwriter Mayur Puri, on gender dynamics in the music industry. The panel passionately advocated for breaking down stereotypes, fostering inclusivity, and creating a diverse and inclusive musical landscape.
