“Raga to Rock” – Exploring India’s Timeless Music:
 

With its roots tracing back to ancient times as evidenced in various texts, music holds a profound place within India’s cultural fabric. India’s rich musical heritage, acknowledged the world-over was explored during this event, highlighting its integral connection to spirituality and culture. Ironically, despite the global acclaim for Indian music, creators often face challenges in sustaining themselves financially through their craft.

The program featured discerning narratives by preeminent creative wizards author, poet, actor, and film director Varun Grover, and leading songwriter, film director, and IPRS board member Mayur Puri. The tete-a-tete touched upon India’s musical legacy and its evolution to the contemporary era. Furthermore, a captivating musical drama titled ‘Suro Mein Lipate Kisse’, curated by the versatile writer and storyteller Ulka Mayur, depicted this musical journey.

Intending to spark a national conversation about the inherent value of music and the necessity of supporting creators and their creativity for the sustainability of the music industry, IPRS also launched its nationwide campaign, “My Music, My Rights,”

 
Kala Ghoda Panel Discussion: 

IPRS, in collaboration with the Kala Ghoda festival, organized a panel discussion featuring esteemed music industry creators such as Shalmali Kholgade, Raghav Meatle, Sherrin Varghese, along with IP lawyer Himanshu Bagai. Moderated by Chaitanya Chinchlikar, the panel delved into pertinent topics around the role of AI in the creative industry. Discussions ranged from AI’s impact on artistic domains to how AI tools can augment creativity while addressing ethical dilemmas. The session also highlighted successful collaborations between human creators and AI, job displacement concerns, and the proliferation of AI-generated content across various artistic fields.

 

 
CTRL ALT DEL as Community Partner: 

IPRS partnered with Control Alt Delete, a prominent crowd-funded music festival in India, to provide assistance to musicians regarding music copyright. At CAD 13, IPRS representatives addressed queries regarding membership, ensuring independent artists gained clarity on managing their rights as music creators. The collaboration emphasized the importance of acknowledging that creations are intellectual property, affirming artists’ rights to benefit from their work.

 
Asia Music Summit Participation: 

At the Asia Music Summit, IPRS continued its mission to educate and empower songwriters, composers, and music makers on music rights and royalties. The team ensured that creators were made cognizant about the rights conferred upon them by the law of the land. The widespread media coverage helped extend their reach to the Northeast region amplifying their footprint.

 
Deccan Alternative Music Conference: 

As part of the Deccan Alternative Music Conference, IPRS conducted an insightful workshop focused on demystifying music copyright and licensing. Bringing to light the role IPRS plays in managing creator and publisher rights the workshop underlined the creators right to royalties. Additionally, an exclusive enrollment boot camp was organized during the conference, allowing independent artists, songwriters, and composers to register their work on-the-spot. This initiative aimed to empower creators by facilitating seamless access to the benefits of IPRS membership, ensuring due credits through data registration, and providing valuable insights to boost their musical journey.
