Impact of AI on Music and its Creators

With artificial intelligence slowly but steadily enveloping every dimension of modern life, it was only a matter of time before the realm of creation and music came in its ambit. How could then, IPRS, the representative body of authors, composers and publishers of music, looking into every possible change and development in the music world overlook this? Considering the possible impact of AI on creator and creativity, IPRS went on to host a detailed panel discussion highlighting the opportunities and challenges it will pose.
Conducted under the umbrella of The Kala Ghoda Art Festival Mumbai on the 28th of January, the discussion was graced by eminent creators and music industry experts. Singer- Songwriter Shalmali Kholgade, Singer-Songwriter Raghav Meatle, Singer-Songwriter Sherrin Varghese, Advocate IP and Copyright Himanshu Bagai.
IPRS is elated to present a delightful conversation with one of India’s award winning and prolific Telugu songwriter Chandrabose. With “Nattu Naatu” his international chartbuster from RRR netting him the Academy and Golden Globe awards, Chandrabose symbolizes the arrival of the Indian lyricist on the global platform
With a career spanning 3 decades, how have you kept yourself going and where do you find the creative energy to be so prolific and maintain your high standards as a writer?

There have been a few simple but important habits that have helped me stay creative. Regularly immersing myself in a diverse range of books; Traveling to new places, conversing with locals, learning about their habits and culture helps open up new viewpoints for me…
“Raga to Rock” Exploring India’s Timeless Music
With its roots tracing back to ancient times as evidenced in various texts, music holds a profound place within India’s cultural fabric. India’s rich musical heritage, acknowledged the world-over was explored during this event, highlighting its integral connection to spirituality and culture. Ironically, despite the global acclaim for Indian music, creators often face challenges in sustaining themselves financially through their craft.
The program featured discerning narratives by preeminent creative wizards author, poet, actor, and film director Varun Grover, and leading songwriter, film director, and IPRS board member Mayur Puri.
IPRS flags off passionate nationwide campaign “My Music My Rights”
Vasant Panchami, the occasion to pay respect to the Goddess of creation and beauty Mata Saraswati has been a tradition much revered and followed in the Indian subcontinent. IPRS the strongest voice for the rights of the creators took the auspicious muhurta to yet again underline its support to the fraternity of Authors, Music Composers and Publishers by launching a passionate all India campaign ” My Music My Rights” on the 15th February in Mumbai.
The need for this campaign was fueled by an insightful study by EY “The Music Creator Economy”: The Rise Of Music Publishing In India.

Shankar Mahadevan, versatile music composer-singer, is on a roll with another honor coming his way, this time in the form of a Doctorate conferred upon him by the D.Y Patil. University Navi Mumbai. This comes on the heels of the recent Grammy and is his second honorary doctorate after Birmingham City University of the United Kingdom.
