A tribute to Vanraj Bhatia, composer par excellence
The legendary musician and composer of western music, cinema, television, background music, devotional albums, and jingles, Vanraj Bhatia Sahab passed away in Mumbai on 7th May. He was 93 and was suffering from age-related health complications.
The music director made a mark through songs in Shyam Benegal’s films like “Kya Hai Tera Gham Bata” in ‘Kalyug’, “Tumhare Bin Jee Na Lage” in ‘Bhumika’, ‘Mero Gaam Katha Party” in ‘Manthan.’ Some of his other known film work include ‘36 Chowrighee Lane,’ ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron,’ ‘Hip Hip Hurray,’ and the teleserial ‘Tamas.’
“Celebrating the Life & Music of a Genius”, a live online session in fond memory of Late Shri Vanraj Bhatia, was hosted by The Indian Performing Right Society Ltd. (IPRS), Music Composers Association of India (MCAI), and Radioandmusic.com as a humble tribute to the legend on 9th May 2021.
Icons from the music industry including Javed Akhtar, Shyam Benegal, Govind Nihalani, Zubin Balaporia participated in the session which was filled with nostalgia and anecdotes about the legend.
